Yantis is located in the northwestern section of the County and was settled by Henry M. Matthews in 1860.  A gristmill, saw mill and cotton gin were erected by J. N. Singleton in 1870.  A post office was established in 1885 and George R. Yantis, who operated a saw mill and gin, was appointed postmaster.  Apparently it was named for Mr. Yantis.

Lake Fork, built by Sabine River Authority, was built in this part of the County about 20 years ago and as a result many people have moved to this area making it one of the largest communities in the County.
