Yantis
is located in the northwestern section of the County and was settled by
Henry M. Matthews in 1860. A gristmill, saw mill and cotton gin were erected by J. N.
Singleton in 1870. A post
office was established in 1885 and George R. Lake Fork, built by Sabine River Authority, was built in this part of the County about 20 years ago and as a result many people have moved to this area making it one of the largest communities in the County. U.S. Post Office in Yantis - 1902 |
